Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has reiterated its steadfast support for Yemen’s internationally recognized government, emphasizing its commitment to a peaceful, comprehensive political solution that addresses all regional and local concerns.
In an early morning statement on social media, Saudi Minister of Defense Prince Khalid bin Salman highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts in mobilizing allied nations to support Yemen’s legitimate authorities in response to their request. Saudi Arabia has taken a proactive role within the legal coalition supporting Yemen’s government, he said.
Prince Khalid stressed that the southern Yemen issue represents a legitimate political concern that cannot be overlooked or reduced to personal interests. He noted that the Riyadh Conference successfully united all Yemeni factions, paving the way for a comprehensive political settlement that includes addressing southern grievances. The Riyadh Agreement guarantees southern Yemenis’ participation in government and provides a framework for resolving disputes through dialogue rather than force.
The Saudi Defense Minister reaffirmed the Kingdom’s ongoing economic and humanitarian support for Yemen, aimed at alleviating suffering, promoting development, and strengthening resilience against economic challenges. He praised the efforts of southern leaders in Hadramawt and Al-Mahrah for de-escalating tensions and prioritizing stability over conflict.
Saudi Arabia also called on the Southern Transitional Council to respond positively to mediation efforts led by Riyadh and Abu Dhabi, withdraw forces from conflict zones, and return them peacefully to local authorities, thereby prioritizing national interest and unity.
Regional and international leaders have welcomed Saudi Arabia’s mediation efforts. Lebanese President Michel Aoun praised the Kingdom’s role in promoting dialogue and political solutions to preserve Yemen’s sovereignty, unity, and social fabric. Syria, the UAE, Oman, Egypt, and Jordan also expressed support for Riyadh’s initiatives and urged Yemeni factions to exercise restraint.
The United States and the United Kingdom reinforced their support for Saudi and UAE-led diplomatic efforts to ease tensions in eastern Yemen. The UK’s Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa, James Falconer, highlighted ongoing monitoring and backing of efforts to reach a peaceful resolution.
In light of these developments, Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Chairman and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Rashad Al-Alimi, called on the Saudi-led coalition to assist the Yemeni military in maintaining security, protecting civilians, and safeguarding the mediation process.
Prince Khalid concluded that the southern Yemen issue remains central to any comprehensive political solution and must be resolved through consensus, trust-building, and dialogue rather than unilateral or reckless actions.
Saudi Arabia’s role continues to underscore its position as a responsible regional actor committed to peace, stability, and development across the Arabian Peninsula.
