Sukkur/Ghotki: In a decisive move to restore law and order, the Sindh government announced on Wednesday the launch of a joint mega operation with Punjab police to eliminate dacoits operating in the Katcha areas. The operation, set to begin from Ghotki, follows comprehensive planning and interprovincial coordination.
Presiding over a high-level meeting on the law and order situation in the Sukkur and Larkana Ranges, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed police officials to adopt a coordinated strategy to fully eradicate criminal networks in both riverine (Katcha) and settled (Pakka) areas.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Alam Odho, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sukkur Nasir Aftab, and senior superintendents of police (SSPs) of the concerned districts. Detailed briefings highlighted operational progress, including the dismantling of dacoit hideouts and intelligence-driven actions against facilitators.
Through modern technology, drone surveillance, and persistent police presence, criminal elements are being actively pursued, the forum was informed.
Home Minister Lanjar emphasized a zero-tolerance policy against those challenging the writ of the state, declaring that mistakes during operations are possible, but the government stands firmly behind the police. He also instructed authorities to immediately submit recommendations for logistical support, including drones, weapons, ammunition, and vehicles.
Coordination with Punjab authorities was underlined as a key component, with the Sindh IG directed to liaise personally with Punjab IG and Bahawalpur RPO to ensure seamless collaboration. Lanjar also praised the police for their professionalism and assured that he would personally monitor the operation closely.
Speaking to the media, the home minister highlighted recent successes, including the recovery of kidnapped individuals from Punjab with the help of Rangers and other security agencies. He reiterated that the law applies equally to all, promising swift action against notorious dacoits and criminal networks.
Lanjar further urged dacoits to surrender and integrate into the national mainstream or face elimination through state force. He reassured the public that the Sindh Police is fully capable of maintaining law and order without the need for military intervention.
Operations will continue until lasting peace is established, and the protection of life and property will not be compromised, he concluded.
