Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport has unveiled one of the most extensive operational changes in its recent history, announcing a comprehensive terminal transition scheduled to take place from February 16 to February 25. The move is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, accommodating rising passenger volumes, and delivering a smoother, more integrated travel experience for both domestic and international travelers.

According to airport authorities, the transition involves a reorganization of terminal operations designed to optimize passenger flow and improve service delivery. The initiative reflects the airport’s commitment to long-term development plans aligned with Saudi Arabia’s broader aviation expansion goals. With passenger traffic steadily increasing, the restructuring of terminal allocations has been deemed essential to ensure that services remain streamlined and responsive to evolving travel demands.

To minimize confusion and ensure seamless movement during the transition period, King Khalid International Airport has introduced a robust on-ground support system. More than 250 trained transfer guides will be strategically positioned at high-traffic areas throughout the airport. These include entrances, departure halls, arrival zones, security checkpoints, and connecting corridors. Their primary role will be to direct passengers accurately, clarify terminal assignments, and assist with navigation across the reconfigured layout.

In parallel, the airport’s dedicated “Ask Me” team will play a crucial role in supporting travelers. Over 400 staff members from this customer assistance unit will be deployed at terminal gates, metro access points, parking facilities, and other key locations. These representatives will respond to inquiries, provide real-time updates, and help passengers locate the correct departure or arrival areas. The presence of this expanded team aims to significantly reduce potential delays or misunderstandings during the transitional phase.

Recognizing that terminal reassignment can create logistical challenges, airport management has also introduced a range of complimentary transportation services. Passengers needing to move between terminals will have access to free taxi transfers operating within the airport grounds. Additionally, a complimentary metro service will connect terminals, allowing travelers to switch locations quickly and efficiently without incurring additional costs.

To further facilitate mobility, a shuttle service will operate at frequent intervals, departing approximately every four minutes. This continuous circulation is designed to maintain steady passenger flow and minimize waiting times. For those arriving by private vehicle, the airport has announced one hour of free parking, easing the burden on families and drivers assisting departing or arriving passengers during this adjustment period.

Airport officials have strongly encouraged travelers to verify their terminal assignments directly with their respective airlines before heading to the airport. Given that certain airlines may be relocating operations as part of the transition, confirming updated details in advance is essential to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.

In addition to enhanced physical assistance, King Khalid International Airport is leveraging digital tools to keep passengers well informed. Travelers can utilize the airport’s interactive WhatsApp service, which provides flight information up to 48 hours prior to departure. The platform also delivers real-time updates regarding gate changes, terminal assignments, and schedule adjustments. By integrating smart communication solutions, the airport seeks to reduce congestion at information counters while ensuring passengers receive accurate and timely notifications.

The scale of this terminal transition underscores the airport’s broader modernization agenda. Rather than a routine adjustment, this initiative represents a structural realignment of operations aimed at supporting future growth. By combining expanded on-site staffing, complimentary transport services, and digital engagement tools, airport authorities aim to maintain operational continuity while improving the overall passenger journey.

Officials describe the transition as a carefully coordinated effort involving multiple departments working in unison. Operational planning has focused on maintaining safety standards, preserving punctuality, and delivering consistent service quality throughout the process. The deployment of additional personnel and resources reflects a proactive approach to change management, designed to prevent disruption before it occurs.

Ultimately, the February 16–25 transition period marks a pivotal milestone for King Khalid International Airport. While temporary adjustments are inevitable in a project of this magnitude, the comprehensive preparation and support systems in place demonstrate a clear commitment to passenger convenience and operational excellence. Through strategic planning and enhanced service delivery, the airport aims not only to manage this transition effectively but also to position itself as a leading aviation hub capable of meeting the demands of a rapidly evolving global travel landscape.
