Syrian Minister of Health, Musab Al-Ali, highlighted that the provided medications are sufficient to meet the annual needs of thalassemia patients and will play a crucial role in improving the quality of life for those suffering from chronic conditions. He explained that the medicines will not only support ongoing treatment but also reduce the financial and logistical burdens on patients and their families. The minister emphasized that this assistance strengthens the efforts of the Syrian Ministry of Health and enhances the capabilities of local medical staff.
According to the ministry, the medications delivered through the King Salman Relief Center have already been distributed to all provincial health directorates, ensuring that patients across Syria have timely access to treatment. Minister Al-Ali also expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its active humanitarian role, stating that this aid reflects the spirit of brotherhood and cooperation between the two countries.
As part of this effort, a dialysis center was inaugurated in Maarrat al-Numan, a city in southern Idlib province. The center comprises four treatment units equipped with 27 dialysis machines. These machines have an operational capacity to perform approximately 2,400 dialysis sessions daily under a shift system, with each machine able to serve up to 200 patients. The establishment of this center ensures that local residents, including displaced individuals returning to their homes, can access essential dialysis services.
In addition to the dialysis center, a water treatment and purification plant was inaugurated in the city. This facility provides clean and safe drinking water to residents and returnees, strengthening the region’s essential infrastructure. The Saudi aid package is intended to benefit approximately 450,000 people, offering dialysis services while reducing financial and travel-related burdens for the local population. It also reinforces the medical infrastructure of Maarrat al-Numan and surrounding areas.
The King Salman Relief Center continues to provide humanitarian support to the Syrian population. Last year, thousands of tons of food, medical supplies, and tents were delivered via air and land corridors. Through the land-based aid network, a total of 114 trucks transported essential supplies across border points, ensuring that urgent needs in crisis-affected areas were met.
