ISLAMABAD: The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has decided to induct additional buses and reorganise existing routes to address the long-standing transport problems faced by female students.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by IIUI Vice President (Administration and Finance) Prof Dr Abdul Raheman. The meeting was attended by Dr Amna Mahmood, In-charge Female Campus, Mr Hassan Aftab, Director Transport, Dr Inam ul Haq, Director Administration and Works, Mr Naveed Ehtesham, Director Academics, Mr Sajjad Siddiqi, Additional Director Female Campus, and other senior officials.
The participants discussed the increasing complaints of overcrowding and overloading of buses. It was agreed that immediate steps would be taken to improve the situation, including the introduction of new buses and a reorganisation of routes to reduce congestion. The university administration also resolved to put in place monitoring mechanisms to ensure safer and more comfortable travel for female students.
Officials noted that the initiative followed consultations between the vice president, in-charges, and department heads. A revised timetable is also being prepared to distribute travel loads more evenly and to reduce the burden on existing transport.
The move comes weeks after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia donated four buses to the university. Building on that gesture, the administration reiterated its commitment to making transport facilities more responsive to the needs of students, particularly women.
University leadership stressed that measures will continue to evolve in line with student feedback so that issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
