Islamabad: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday underscored the urgent need for international cooperation to combat terrorism, mitigate climate change, and resolve global conflicts through peaceful means.
Speaking at a high-level international forum in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Sharif emphasized that global stability and sustainable development require a collective approach. Let us move from zero-sum mindsets to purposeful cooperation, invest in connectivity as bridges for people and ideas, resolve disputes peacefully, and reaffirm our commitment to the UN Charter, he said.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and Iran for their mediation efforts with Afghanistan following recent border clashes. We are very grateful to our brotherly countries for their sincere desire and efforts to achieve a ceasefire, which, as I speak, is still very fragile, he said.
Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, highlighting the Gaza Peace Plan and the importance of safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian and Kashmiri peoples. He stressed that Pakistan would continue to advocate for international collaboration to promote peace, stability, and human rights.
The Ashgabat forum commemorates the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality and coincides with the United Nations’ designation of 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust.” The event drew global leaders, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Prime Minister’s address highlighted Pakistan’s active role in promoting dialogue, peaceful solutions, and regional stability amid growing global challenges.
