Saudi Arabia and Spain have taken a significant step toward deepening bilateral cooperation by formalizing new agreements that focus on civil aviation development and the future of transportation systems. The two countries signed a pair of memoranda of understanding designed to strengthen collaboration in aviation regulation, infrastructure development, and next-generation mobility solutions, reflecting their shared commitment to innovation and sustainable transport.

The agreements were signed during an official ceremony held at the headquarters of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics in Riyadh. Representing the Kingdom was Minister of Transport and Logistics Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, while Spain was represented by its Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Oscar Puente. The signing marked an important milestone in expanding strategic ties between Riyadh and Madrid in the transport and logistics sector.

At the core of the memoranda is a comprehensive framework for cooperation in civil aviation. Both sides agreed to work closely on enhancing technical coordination, regulatory alignment, and operational practices within the aviation sector. This collaboration aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise, best practices, and technical knowledge to support the continued growth and modernization of air transport services in both countries.

Beyond aviation, the agreements also outline cooperation in shaping the future of transportation infrastructure and mobility. Saudi Arabia and Spain intend to collaborate on the planning and development of advanced transport networks, with a focus on innovative and sustainable solutions that respond to evolving global mobility needs. This includes exploring future modes of transportation, integrating new technologies, and developing policies that support smart and efficient transport systems.

One of the key objectives of the memoranda is to enhance aviation safety and security standards. By aligning regulatory approaches and sharing technical expertise, both countries seek to improve air safety oversight, strengthen aviation security frameworks, and ensure the highest levels of operational reliability. These efforts are expected to contribute to safer skies and more resilient aviation systems.

Improving the quality of air operations and elevating the passenger experience also form an essential part of the cooperation. The agreements emphasize upgrading service standards, optimizing airport and airline operations, and adopting passenger-centric solutions that enhance comfort, efficiency, and overall travel satisfaction. This focus aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader ambition to position itself as a global aviation hub and Spain’s long-standing experience in managing major international air traffic flows.
