An important high-level meeting was held in Lahore under the chairmanship of Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, to review the country’s overall food situation, agricultural production, and the potential for exporting food items to other countries. During the meeting, officials discussed in detail how Pakistan could make effective use of its agricultural capacity in light of changing regional and global conditions and play a constructive role in meeting the food requirements of friendly Gulf nations.

At the start of the meeting, government officials briefed the prime minister on the current status of food supplies and agricultural production across the country. According to the briefing, Pakistan currently has sufficient reserves of essential food items and there is no immediate shortage of major commodities. Officials informed the meeting that the country possesses strong production capacity in several sectors including grains, fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, dairy products, and seafood. These sectors, they said, offer considerable opportunities for increasing exports to international markets.

The prime minister emphasized that the government’s foremost responsibility is to ensure that the food needs of the Pakistani population are fully met. He directed relevant departments to maintain strict monitoring of the supply and demand of food items across the country. According to him, maintaining balance in the domestic food market is essential so that the population does not face any shortages while the country simultaneously benefits from export opportunities where surplus production exists.

During the discussion, the prime minister highlighted that global supply chains have recently faced disruptions in several parts of the world. Such disruptions, he noted, have created new opportunities for agricultural exporters. Pakistan, as an agricultural country with diverse production, can take advantage of these developments by increasing its presence in international food markets.

Special attention was given to the needs of Gulf countries, which maintain strong diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties with Pakistan. The prime minister said that the Gulf region represents an important partner for Pakistan and that many Pakistanis live and work in these countries. Therefore, he stressed that Pakistan should actively contribute to strengthening food security in friendly Gulf nations by supplying high-quality food products.

He instructed the concerned authorities to prepare a comprehensive and well-organized strategy to enhance the export of food items to Gulf states. According to the prime minister, such a strategy should ensure that Pakistani agricultural products reach international markets efficiently and consistently. He also emphasized that strict quality standards must be maintained when exporting food items, as maintaining high quality is essential for building international trust and protecting the reputation of Pakistani products.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif further noted that the quality and reliability of food exports are crucial for expanding Pakistan’s share in global markets. If Pakistani products meet international standards and are delivered consistently, he said, they can significantly strengthen the country’s economic position and improve its image abroad.

The meeting also discussed ways to further improve agricultural production within the country. The prime minister directed authorities to introduce measures that would support farmers and increase productivity. He emphasized the importance of providing farmers with modern agricultural knowledge, better facilities, and improved access to resources. According to him, strengthening the agricultural sector will not only ensure food security within Pakistan but also create more opportunities for exports.

In addition, the prime minister instructed the national shipping authority to take necessary steps to facilitate the transportation of food products to Gulf countries. He pointed out that maritime transport plays a critical role in international trade and that efficient shipping arrangements are essential to ensure timely delivery of food exports. Improving logistical arrangements, he said, will help Pakistan expand its food exports and meet international demand more effectively.

During the meeting, the prime minister also ordered the formation of a special committee that will review the food situation in the country on a daily basis. This committee will closely monitor food reserves, production levels, and export activities to ensure that domestic needs remain protected while export opportunities are properly utilized. The committee will regularly report its findings and recommendations to the prime minister.

Furthermore, the prime minister directed Pakistan’s ambassadors and trade officials stationed in foreign countries to play a more active role in promoting Pakistani food products. He encouraged them to closely study international markets, identify emerging opportunities, and facilitate stronger trade connections for Pakistani agricultural goods.

According to the prime minister, diplomatic missions abroad can play a significant role in strengthening trade relations and opening new markets for Pakistan’s agricultural sector. By working closely with importers, distributors, and governments in host countries, Pakistani representatives can help increase demand for food products produced in Pakistan.

Officials attending the meeting expressed confidence that Pakistan possesses strong agricultural resources, fertile land, and a hardworking farming community. These strengths, they said, place the country in a favorable position to maintain food self-sufficiency while also supplying food to other countries.

They assured the prime minister that, in accordance with his instructions, a comprehensive policy framework will be developed to ensure the availability of food for domestic consumption while simultaneously promoting exports in a balanced and sustainable manner.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that Pakistan has the potential to become an important supplier of food in the region. He stressed that strengthening agriculture, supporting farmers, and ensuring high-quality exports should remain central priorities of the government.

He also emphasized that enhancing food cooperation with friendly Gulf countries would not only strengthen economic ties but also reinforce long-standing diplomatic relations. Through improved planning, efficient logistics, and high production standards, Pakistan can play a meaningful role in contributing to food security across the region while simultaneously advancing its own economic development.
