General Ahmed Sharif: “Peace Is Our Choice, But Strength Is Our Language”

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), once again reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to defending its territorial integrity, declaring that any act of external aggression or provocation will be met with a strong, firm, and decisive response. His remarks came at a time when tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have recently intensified, particularly amid Islamabad’s growing concerns about cross-border militant activity.

Addressing students and faculty members from various universities in Abbottabad, General Chaudhry said that the Pakistan Armed Forces remain steadfast in their vow to safeguard the nation. He emphasized that the military has waged a long and difficult battle against terrorism, a war that has cost thousands of lives but succeeded in preventing the state’s security and ideology from being compromised.

He noted that the Pakistan Army is not only the guardian of the country’s borders but also a symbol of national unity, strength, and public trust. “At this moment, Pakistan faces multiple regional challenges,” he said, “but our forces are fully prepared to confront them on every front. Those who believe they can undermine Pakistan’s resolve or test its defenses are mistaken.”

Discussing the situation in Afghanistan, the ISPR chief said that Pakistan’s concerns are well-founded, as credible evidence indicates that Afghan soil continues to be used by anti-Pakistan militant groups. Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Taliban government to prevent its territory from being used for terrorism, yet attacks across the border have not fully ceased. He reiterated that Pakistan has always sought peace but warned that true peace is sustained not through weakness, but through strength, discipline, and determination.

Turning his attention to the youth, General Chaudhry highlighted the growing challenge of information warfare, saying that the new form of terrorism targets minds instead of territories. “Our young generation must recognize that misinformation and propaganda are weapons used to divide us,” he said. “The defense of Pakistan is not limited to the battlefield — it extends to every citizen, every classroom, and every platform that stands for truth and unity.”

During his detailed interaction with students and teachers, he discussed Pakistan’s current security outlook, defense policy, and evolving relationship with Afghanistan. He emphasized that Pakistan’s struggle against terrorism has set an example for the world. “We have not only secured our own borders,” he said, “but also played a meaningful role in global peace.”

Hazarah University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ikramullah Khan, who attended the event, praised the army’s role in national development, saying, “The Pakistan Army’s contribution is not limited to defense — it also plays a constructive role in education, awareness, and nation-building. We stand with our armed forces, united in our resolve.” He added that misleading narratives and extremist elements seek to manipulate the youth, making it essential to promote truth and verified information.

The session in Abbottabad was part of a broader outreach initiative by the Pakistan Army, aimed at engaging directly with students across the country to raise awareness about national security, sacrifices made in the war on terror, and the importance of unity. Many participants said the discussion helped clarify misconceptions about the army’s role and offered valuable insight into the realities shaping national and regional affairs.

The ISPR statement noted that General Chaudhry also discussed “Operation Ma’raka-e-Haq,” referring to the military campaign against extremist factions. He said the operation was not merely a tactical mission but a moral and ideological stand — “a struggle between truth and falsehood.”

His remarks also echoed earlier statements by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, who on October 21 had declared that any violation of Pakistan’s borders would receive a swift and decisive military response.

Observers see these repeated affirmations as a clear reflection of Pakistan’s evolving defense doctrine — one that emphasizes deterrence, national cohesion, and proactive engagement amid a volatile regional environment. Analysts also point out that the message comes at a critical juncture when Pakistan faces both cross-border tensions with Afghanistan and renewed military friction with India earlier in the year.

General Chaudhry stressed that Pakistan’s calls for peace should never be mistaken for weakness. “We are a nation built on sacrifice,” he said, “and our commitment to defend our homeland is absolute. Anyone who challenges Pakistan’s sovereignty will find us ready — politically, militarily, and morally.”

His speech not only renewed a sense of patriotism among young listeners but also reinforced a broader message: Pakistan remains resilient, united, and determined to protect its independence. It was a reminder that every soldier, every officer, and every citizen stands as a guardian of the nation’s honor, echoing the enduring belief that the defense of Pakistan is both a duty and a sacred trust.
