Former Prime Minister and Convener of the Awaam Pakistan Party (APP), Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, was rushed to Al-Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad late Friday night after he experienced severe chest pain. According to hospital officials, initial medical examinations revealed blockages in two major arteries of his heart. A team of cardiologists immediately performed an emergency angioplasty procedure and placed two stents to restore normal blood flow and prevent further complications.
Hospital sources have confirmed that Mr. Abbasi’s condition is now stable, and he remains under close medical supervision. Doctors have advised him to rest completely and avoid stress. Following the procedure, his heartbeat and blood pressure returned to normal levels, though doctors have recommended that he stay in the hospital for a few more days to ensure full recovery and continuous observation.
Miftah Ismail, co-founder of the Awaam Pakistan Party and former finance minister, shared an update on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“Alhamdulillah, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s health is steadily improving. He is now feeling better and resting comfortably. We are praying for his complete and speedy recovery. I am deeply grateful to all friends, colleagues, and well-wishers who have reached out to inquire about his health and sent their prayers.”
Political observers note that news of Abbasi’s sudden illness has caused widespread concern across political circles. Messages of support and good wishes have poured in from former prime ministers, cabinet members, opposition leaders, and party supporters nationwide. Many political figures took to social media to express their prayers for his swift recovery.
It is worth mentioning that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, after parting ways with the Pakistan Muslim League (N) in 2024, co-founded the Awaam Pakistan Party along with Miftah Ismail and Musaddiq Malik. The party was launched with a vision centered on good governance, economic stability, and public welfare. His sudden hospitalization has caused concern among party members, many of whom continue to send messages of hope and solidarity.
According to hospital staff, if his condition remains stable in the coming days, Mr. Abbasi is expected to be discharged soon and will continue his recovery at home under medical supervision. Health experts emphasized the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise, and routine checkups for heart patients, expressing optimism that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will make a full recovery in the near future.
