Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has reiterated that cowardly terrorist attacks can never undermine Pakistan’s resolve to confront the menace of terrorism. Addressing the two-day Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference in Islamabad, he referenced the recent suicide attack in the federal capital and the assault on Cadet College in Wana, emphasizing that such incidents, while tragic, strengthen the nation’s commitment to security and peace rather than weaken it.
Deputy Prime Minister Dar stated, “Let me be clear: these cowardly acts will never shake or diminish our national determination to combat the threat of terrorism. Instead, they reinforce the understanding that the path to lasting peace lies in dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding.” He underlined that attacks targeting civilians and security personnel must not provoke fear but inspire a more coordinated and strategic response from the government, security forces, and civil institutions.
In his address, he revealed that in the past 48 hours, Pakistan witnessed two particularly heinous terrorist attacks – one in Wana, South Waziristan, and another in Islamabad – resulting in the loss of at least 15 precious lives. Ishaq Dar strongly condemned the attacks and expressed heartfelt condolences to the affected families, asserting that the government unequivocally denounces every form of terrorism, regardless of its scale or method.
He described terrorism as one of the most significant global challenges of our time and highlighted Pakistan’s role as a steadfast guardian against this threat. He emphasized that the country confronts terrorism without bias toward any border, religion, gender, ethnicity, or nationality, positioning Pakistan as a resilient defender of peace and security.
The Islamabad attack, which marked the first suicide bombing in the city in nearly three years, occurred during ongoing international events, including the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference and the *6th Margalla Dialogue, while a three-nation cricket series between Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe was also in progress, with a match taking place in Rawalpindi on the same day. According to authorities, the suicide bomber, associated with the banned *Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), attempted multiple times to infiltrate a secure complex in G-11 before detonating explosives at the main entrance, where hundreds of attendees, lawyers, and officials were present.
Deputy Prime Minister Dar stressed that such acts of terrorism cannot intimidate the nation; rather, they highlight the importance of national unity, strategic planning, and effective coordination among political leaders, law enforcement agencies, and civil society. He emphasized that only through a comprehensive approach combining security measures, social engagement, and international cooperation can lasting peace and stability be achieved in Pakistan.
He further asserted that the government remains committed to confronting terrorism decisively, ensuring that these cowardly attacks do not disrupt the country’s path toward security and development. According to Dar, Pakistan’s consistent stance against terrorism demonstrates its unwavering resolve to protect its citizens and maintain law and order, sending a clear message that violent extremists will never succeed in undermining the nation’s determination.
The Deputy Prime Minister concluded by affirming that while terrorism continues to pose serious challenges, Pakistan’s institutions, armed forces, and government remain fully committed to defending the nation and safeguarding public lives. He called for ongoing vigilance, strategic cooperation, and societal resilience to ensure that the country emerges stronger, more unified, and increasingly capable of neutralizing threats to peace and stability.
