QUANTICO, Virginia: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday declared that it would be an insult to the United States if he is not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his claimed role in advancing peace initiatives from Gaza to Ukraine.
Speaking at a meeting of top military commanders, Trump accused the Nobel Committee of bias, suggesting the honor often goes to those who didn’t do a damn thing. He said that will I get the Nobel Prize? Absolutely not. They’ll give it to some guy that didn’t do anything. It’d be a big insult to our country.
Turning to the Middle East, Trump issued a blunt warning to Hamas, saying the group will face hell to pay if it refuses to sign onto his Gaza peace plan, which demands the militant group’s disarmament and a hostage release. We have one signature that we need, and that signature will pay in hell if they don’t sign, he warned.
The president insisted the deal could offer Palestinians a historic chance to achieve stability and prosperity. I hope they sign for their own good and create something really great, Trump added.
On Ukraine, Trump urged Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to engage directly in talks to end the war, stressing that prolonged conflict benefits no one.
Trump’s remarks come as he positions himself as a global dealmaker, despite widespread skepticism about the durability of his proposed peace frameworks.
