On October 8, 2025, Diriyah Company confirmed that it has executed a major joint-venture agreement valued at around USD 244 million (SAR 917 million) for the second-phase construction of the Grand Mosque in Diriyah. The contract partners are AlMajal AlArabi Group and MAN Enterprise AlSaudia LLC, who will work together to bring the design by acclaimed X Architects to life. Once completed, the mosque will be able to host 11,400 worshippers in total—5,240 inside the main prayer halls and 6,160 in exterior spaces—accommodated within a built-up footprint of 12,320 square meters.
Diriyah Company describes the Grand Mosque as more than a place of worship. It is envisaged as a new focal point for community gatherings, cultural events, book fairs, local markets, and seasonal prayers like Eid and Ramadan. Within its walls, visitors will find separate prayer areas for men and women, facilities for ablution, a library overlooking the Wadi Hanifah valley, offices for facility management, and landscaped plazas intended to host public activities.
The architectural concept integrates the elegance of Najdi heritage motifs with contemporary engineering innovations. The facades will display characteristic Najdi patterns, while the interiors adopt a sleek, restrained aesthetic that ensures both serenity and utility. A key feature is a 3D mesh shell that filters natural daylight into the prayer hall while mitigating heat penetration, offering participants comfort even under the intense Saudi sun.
In keeping with Diriyah’s broader development goals, the mosque is being crafted to earn LEED Gold and Mostadam Gold green certifications. It will be fully integrated into the smart-city infrastructure of Diriyah, connecting essential systems—water, irrigation, power consumption, fire and life safety, security—directly to the Diriyah central operations center.
Jerry Inzerillo, CEO of Diriyah Company Group, affirmed that this second-phase Grand Mosque will serve as a landmark religious and urban asset, marrying peaceful design with heritage sensitivity. It is one among 31 mosques planned for the Diriyah development zone, cumulatively contributing some 74,300 square meters of devoted religious space.
Diriyah, located on the outskirts of Riyadh, is one of Saudi Arabia’s marquee giga-projects backed by the Public Investment Fund. The master plan targets housing for 100,000 residents, creation of 180,000+ jobs, and 50 million annual visits by 2030. The project is also projected to add nearly USD 18.6 billion directly to the country’s GDP.
Recent updates from contractors suggest that mobilization work is already underway. The consortium of AlMajal AlArabi and MAN Enterprise is gearing up to break ground. The temple is expected to be delivered by 2028, joining other Diriyah initiatives that aim for high standards in sustainability, cultural authenticity, and smart-urban integration.
Beyond its structural role, the mosque is part of a larger narrative—Diriyah is being transformed into a cultural-lifestyle tourism destination, rooted in Saudi heritage. The project encompasses traditional architecture, heritage preservation, sustainable design, advanced infrastructure, and vibrant public spaces. By building this mosque, Diriyah Company is linking spiritual life with daily experiences, offering residents and visitors alike places to pray, assemble, and be part of the cultural rhythm of the region.
