WASHINGTON/RIYADH: The United States and Saudi Arabia this week signed a landmark Strategic Artificial Intelligence (AI) Partnership, cementing a new phase in bilateral cooperation following a high-profile meeting at the White House between US President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The agreement signed by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was hailed by both sides as a “historic step” that elevates the strategic relationship into the frontiers of future technology. It comes alongside the signing of the US–Saudi Strategic Defense Agreement (SDA) and Washington’s formal designation of the Kingdom as a major non-NATO ally (MNNA).

In a joint statement issued after the ceremony, the two governments said the AI partnership reflects a firm commitment by Riyadh and Washington to strengthen innovation-driven cooperation and build a long-term economic security framework.

Officials noted that the agreement covers a wide spectrum of high-tech collaboration, including advanced semiconductor supplies, cutting-edge AI applications, development of AI infrastructure, and large-scale investment flows between the two countries. Both sides said these initiatives are expected to boost productivity, spur innovation, and deliver broad economic and social benefits.

Saudi Arabia aims to leverage its expansive land availability, abundant energy resources, and strategic geographic location to develop AI-focused technology clusters capable of serving regional and global markets, particularly in cloud computing. At the same time, the partnership draws on what the joint statement described as the United States unique technology ecosystem to drive growth and competitiveness.

The agreement is also set to enhance collaboration between Saudi and American companies across a range of 32sectors including health, education, energy, mining, and transportation with the objective of nurturing new ideas and accelerating technological transformation.

Both sides stressed that the Strategic AI Partnership is poised to open the door to “innovative and promising solutions in critical industries, marking the beginning of a new chapter in US–Saudi ties as global competition intensifies in AI and next-generation technologies.
