Riyadh: Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived in Riyadh on Monday, receiving a warm welcome from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as both countries took another significant step in strengthening their strategic partnership, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The Emir co-chaired the eighth meeting of the Qatari-Saudi Co-ordination Council in the Saudi capital, underscoring the commitment of both nations to expand cooperation across multiple sectors. Sheikh Tamim was accompanied by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, who had visited Riyadh earlier on Thursday to hold talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
According to the Saudi Foreign Ministry, the leaders reviewed the strong fraternal relations between the two Gulf nations and discussed ways to elevate cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally under the framework of the Co-ordination Council. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration through several initiatives aimed at expanding economic, political, security, and cultural ties.
Prince Faisal and Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the effective work of the subcommittees and working groups of the Co-ordination Council and stressed the importance of sustaining this momentum to achieve the shared strategic interests of Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
The Co-ordination Council, established to deepen bilateral relations, oversees cooperation in areas including politics, security, finance, trade, investment, culture, and media. It also plays a pivotal role in formulating general policies of co-operation on political matters of common interest, and in strengthening joint security efforts through the exchange of information.
This high-level engagement between Riyadh and Doha comes at a time when Gulf nations are increasingly focusing on economic diversification, regional stability, and strategic partnerships. Analysts say the meetings signal a mutual intent to further integrate their policies, ensuring that both countries remain aligned on critical regional and global issues.
The Emir’s visit is expected to pave the way for new agreements and joint ventures that will reinforce the Gulf’s strategic, economic, and security landscape, reflecting the enduring fraternity and shared vision of Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
