Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, has conferred the prestigious King Abdulaziz Medal (Excellent Class) on Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, in recognition of his outstanding efforts to strengthen Saudi-Pakistani relations.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the medal was awarded in honor of Field Marshal Munir’s distinguished efforts to enhance strategic cooperation and deepen bilateral ties between the two brotherly nations.” The award ceremony took place in Riyadh during an official reception hosted by the Saudi defence minister.

Prince Khalid congratulated Field Marshal Munir on his recent appointment as Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and extended best wishes for success in his leadership role. During the meeting, both sides reviewed the historic and strategic relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, particularly in the defence sector.

Discussions focused on regional security, defence and military cooperation, evolving geopolitical challenges, and joint efforts to promote international peace and stability. Matters of mutual interest were also addressed, reaffirming the shared vision of both countries.

In a statement on social media platform X, Prince Khalid said the medal was presented on the directive of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, recognizing Field Marshal Munir’s pivotal role in advancing Saudi-Pakistani cooperation.

Pakistan’s military media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), later confirmed that the award represents Saudi Arabia’s highest national honor. ISPR stated that the recognition reflects Field Marshal Munir’s leadership, distinguished military service, and significant contributions to defence collaboration, counter-terrorism efforts, and regional stability.

The honour comes amid expanding strategic ties between the two nations. Earlier this year, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement, pledging collective response to any external aggression. Both countries have also expressed a strong desire to elevate their defence partnership to unprecedented levels.
