Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, while addressing the ceremony for the distribution of honorary cards to religious scholars in Lahore, stated that every individual or group involved in oppression, corruption, or creating societal unrest will find no room to operate in Punjab. She emphasized that no sedition or turmoil will be allowed to flourish, and it is the responsibility of the state to investigate and hold accountable anyone involved in acts of cruelty or injustice. She underlined that the state will ensure justice for the blood of martyrs and will not tolerate any threats to public life, property, or the nation’s security.
Maryam Nawaz further stated that using religion as a tool to spread disorder amounts to betrayal. She recalled that in recent years, multiple individuals attempted to incite sedition in the name of religion, resulting in the martyrdom of police and Rangers personnel, damage to civilians’ properties, and obstruction of public movement, disrupting societal peace. She stressed that if these actions are not considered sedition, then what can be defined as such? She added that the state will maintain strict vigilance over every form of oppression or unrest, regardless of its nature or disguise.
The Chief Minister also noted that in times of hardship, people often turn to religion for guidance. She highlighted that both the Quran and Hadith strongly condemn chaos and disorder, and she stressed the importance of discouraging religious hatred and manipulation. Maryam Nawaz appealed to the ulema and mosque leaders to play an active role in educating and training the youth to help maintain social harmony and prevent sedition.
Regarding the honorary cards, she announced that nearly 70,000 accounts have been opened, and every eligible imam will receive a monthly honorarium of 25,000 PKR. This initiative represents a 20-billion-rupee annual program, which will be disbursed directly through bank accounts starting February. She said that while some groups tried to politicize this initiative, it remained a public service and social welfare project rather than a political tool.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the provincial government has made significant progress in eliminating harmful cultural practices, including protecting women’s dignity. She reiterated that no sedition, regardless of its form, will be allowed to take root in Punjab. She firmly stated that the province has made life difficult for all oppressors and mafia elements, ensuring that no unlawful activity is tolerated.
On the subject of traffic laws, she acknowledged that people are often unhappy with strict enforcement but explained that these measures are necessary for citizens’ safety. She clarified that her intention is not to penalize or burden the public but to ensure protection of life and property through adherence to the law.
Maryam Nawaz further urged religious scholars and mosque leaders to actively guide the youth. She emphasized that public education and awareness are crucial to prevent the spread of sedition and unrest. Citizens are encouraged to maintain discipline, stay away from chaos, and reject all forms of corruption and disorder.
She also criticized those who have attempted to incite unrest in the name of religion, noting that the consequences have not been limited to isolated incidents but have spread fear and disruption throughout society. She assured that the state would monitor these events closely and not permit anyone to act beyond the law. The protection of citizens’ lives and property remains a top priority, and justice for martyrs will be ensured.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted that every measure is being taken to maintain peace in the province. She reiterated that state institutions, including the police and Rangers, are fully prepared to protect public security and preserve social order.
She emphasized the importance of recognizing and supporting religious scholars for their contributions to social welfare. Through the distribution of honorary cards, the government aims to facilitate the service of imams and enhance the role of religious leaders in youth education and societal guidance.
