A late-night routine police snap-checking operation in the Defence Housing Authority turned into a highly controversial incident after a confrontation between law enforcement personnel and the son of a senior police officer escalated dramatically, eventually leading to an arrest, widespread circulation of videos on social media, and the initiation of an official investigation.
The incident unfolded during the late hours between Thursday and Friday in Phase VII of the locality, where police teams were conducting routine inspections of vehicles. During this operation, officers intercepted a double-cabin vehicle that was reportedly fitted with police-style flashing lights and carried what authorities later described as a suspicious or fake registration plate. This initial stop soon developed into a tense and heated exchange between the occupants of the vehicle and the police personnel on duty.
The driver of the vehicle was later identified as Khubaib, the son of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Naseem Ara Panhwar. He was confronted by Sub-Inspector Shahzaib Shakeel, who was overseeing the snap-checking duty at the Qayyumabad police post. What began as a standard verification process rapidly intensified when both sides engaged in a verbal dispute, which later became physical and attracted significant attention due to the identities involved.
Footage recorded from different perspectives shows conflicting versions of the encounter. In one video, the police officer can be heard accusing the young driver of misbehaving, including allegedly using inappropriate language and physically grabbing his uniform collar. The officer repeatedly instructs him to maintain discipline and respect during the interaction, emphasizing that no individual is above the law regardless of family background or influence.
In a separate video, reportedly recorded by the driver himself, the tone of the exchange appears equally charged. The clip captures the officer responding sharply during the confrontation, questioning the significance of being related to a senior police official. The officer can be heard asserting that he too comes from a similar background, indicating that professional duty takes precedence over personal connections or status.
Following the escalation at the scene, law enforcement authorities took further action and formally registered a criminal case against Khubaib. The charges include obstruction of official duty, impersonation of law enforcement, possession of a vehicle with unauthorized police-like modifications, and allegations related to disorderly conduct during the confrontation.
Officials stated that the vehicle was equipped with tinted windows and unauthorized emergency-style lighting, which contributed to suspicion during the snap check.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the situation became more serious when the suspect allegedly refused to provide proper identification and instead claimed that his mother held a senior position in the police department.
The report further alleges that he instructed armed individuals accompanying him to intervene and physically push the officer away from the vehicle. As per the FIR, during an attempt to detain him, the situation escalated further, with accusations that the suspect used abusive language, grabbed the officer, and eventually fled the scene along with his security personnel.
However, a contrasting narrative has been presented by the family of the accused. Khubaib’s father, identified as Ali Anwar, rejected several of the allegations and provided a different account of the events. Speaking to the media, he stated that after the incident, both he and his wife voluntarily went to the police station.
He claimed that during this visit, the concerned officer offered an apology regarding the situation, and the matter initially appeared to be resolved amicably.
He further stated that the family fully cooperated with law enforcement, including handing over the vehicle involved in the incident. According to him, the situation took a different turn only after the video footage of the confrontation began circulating widely on social media platforms, which he suggested led to increased public attention and administrative pressure on the case.
As the incident gained traction online, it sparked widespread debate and discussion regarding the conduct of both law enforcement officials and individuals linked to influential backgrounds. The viral nature of the videos added further intensity to the situation, drawing public scrutiny and raising questions about accountability, policing standards, and the handling of such confrontations.
In response to the controversy, senior police officials took notice of the matter and ordered a formal inquiry. The South SSP directed that an investigation be conducted to examine all aspects of the incident. For this purpose, Clifton Superintendent of Police Khalid Javed was appointed as the inquiry officer.
The investigation will assess the actions and behavior of all individuals involved, including both the police personnel on duty and the civilians present at the scene.
Authorities have stated that the purpose of the inquiry is to establish a clear understanding of the events that occurred and to determine whether any procedural violations or misconduct took place. The case continues to attract attention as officials review video evidence, witness accounts, and official statements in order to reach a conclusion.
