At the Presidential Palace in Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari held an important meeting with Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to discuss Pakistan’s overall security situation, both internal and external, amid recent cross-border hostilities.
According to official sources, the discussion came at a critical time when tensions have escalated following a series of provocations originating from Afghan territory. Field Marshal Asim Munir briefed the President in detail on the country’s security environment and shared updates on the actions taken by the armed forces in response to recent cross-border attacks.
The Army Chief informed the President about the Afghan Taliban’s aggression in the border region of Spin Boldak, Balochistan, where Pakistani forces swiftly and effectively countered multiple hostile incursions. President Zardari expressed complete confidence in the competence, readiness, and bravery of the Pakistan Army, stating that the nation stands firmly behind its defenders who continue to safeguard the country’s sovereignty with unwavering dedication.
The President praised the military’s vigilance and professionalism, especially in neutralizing external threats and maintaining peace along the borders. He reaffirmed that Pakistan would spare no effort or sacrifice in defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), in the early hours of October 15, 2025, Afghan Taliban fighters launched cowardly assaults at four different locations in the Spin Boldak area. Pakistani forces responded decisively, neutralizing the attacks with precision and causing heavy losses to the aggressors. Reports indicate that between 15 and 20 Taliban fighters were killed and many others were injured during the engagement.
The ISPR emphasized that the Spin Boldak incident was not an isolated one but part of a broader pattern of aggression from across the border. On the night of October 14 and 15, armed groups affiliated with the Afghan Taliban and the so-called “Fitna al-Khawarij” attempted to attack Pakistani border posts in the Kurram sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but were successfully repelled by Pakistani troops.
In retaliatory strikes, the Pakistan Army destroyed multiple enemy positions. The ISPR reported that at least eight Afghan border posts and six armored tanks were completely destroyed in the counterattack, while approximately 25 to 30 militants were confirmed dead.
During the briefing, Field Marshal Asim Munir assured President Zardari that the armed forces remain fully prepared to defend every inch of the nation’s soil and are capable of responding firmly to any future provocations.
President Zardari expressed concern over the Taliban’s provocative stance, reiterating that while Pakistan desires peace and regional stability, it will never mistake peace for weakness. He stated that any form of aggression against Pakistan would be met with a powerful and resolute response.
Both sides agreed that border security would be further strengthened and that diplomatic channels would be used to lodge a formal protest with the Afghan authorities to prevent further incidents.
