ISLAMABAD: In a landmark step towards scientific innovation and resource exploration, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Malki jointly inaugurated the Geo-Science Advanced Research Laboratories in Islamabad on Monday.

The high-profile ceremony, attended by federal ministers, senior military officials, and representatives of the scientific community, marked the beginning of what officials described as a new era in Pakistan’s applied scientific research and technological progress.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif termed the establishment of the laboratory a defining stride in Pakistan’s journey towards modern scientific excellence. He said the initiative symbolizes deepening cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, reflecting the two countries’ shared vision for sustainable development and innovation.

Pakistan’s abundant natural resources can only be transformed into national strength through science, research, and innovation, the prime minister noted, adding that the facility would serve as a hub for mineral mapping, energy resource identification, and earth-science research.

Field Marshal Asim Munir commended the project’s scientific ambition, describing it as an investment in knowledge-based national security and self-reliance. He underscored the armed forces’ commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen Pakistan’s technological and industrial base.

Saudi Ambassador Nawaf Al-Malki, addressing the gathering, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s continued support for Pakistan in multiple domains, including education, energy, and science. This project reflects the enduring brotherhood between our two nations and a shared determination to pursue excellence, he said.

Officials briefed the dignitaries on the laboratory’s capabilities, including advanced analytical facilities designed for geological surveys, mineral testing, and environmental research. Experts believe the centre will help position Pakistan as a regional leader in geo-scientific innovation and sustainable resource management.

The inauguration concluded with the dignitaries touring various sections of the newly established complex, where they met with researchers and commended their contributions to the country’s scientific advancement.
